My Body, My Thoughts: Encouraging Open Conversations About Health and Safety

Inspiring young menstruators to boost their confidence, embrace their knowledge, and take back their power, dignity, and future!

Adolescence should be a time of discovery, not fear.

In peri-urban communities, menstrautors often face silence surrounding menstruation and safety, resulting in shame and increased vulnerability to gender-based violence. Regent Park Spriha Society is addressing this issue. Their "My Body, My Thoughts" (MBMT) program aims to transform shame into knowledge and fear into confidence through a-based intervention.

The Challenge: A Dual Crisis

Adolescent girls encounter two interconnected challenges that jeopardize their education and overall well-being.

  • The Information Gap: With no formal education on puberty, myths replace facts. Girls often face their periods with fear, leading to unhygienic practices and absenteeism.

  • The Safety Gap: A lack of awareness about consent and bodily autonomy makes girls vulnerable to harassment and abuse. Without the vocabulary to identify "unsafe touch," many suffer in silence.

We believe that a girl who cannot speak openly about her health is less likely to speak up about her safety. We are here to change that.

Our Solution: Education + Access

1. The Mindset: 12-Week Workshop Series

We don't just lecture; we facilitate safe spaces. Over 12 weeks, our expert facilitators guide students through a transformative curriculum covering:

  • Menstrual Health & Hygiene: debunking myths and normalising periods.

  • Bodily Autonomy & Consent: understanding rights and boundaries.

  • GBV Prevention: identifying unsafe situations and learning how to seek help.

  • Emotional Well-being: building peer support networks.

2. The Infrastructure: Sustainable Hygiene

Knowledge is powerless without access. To ensure girls can stay in school during their periods with dignity, we are installing:

  • Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines for affordable, easy access.

  • Eco-friendly Incinerators for safe, private disposal.
