Spriha Society celebrating Independence Day (15th August 2021)

As a part of our NGO's engagement program with the trans community, we, at Spriha Society, celebrated the 75th Independence Day with the Transgender community, especially the members of the Hijra community.

Our first event was the plantation drive, where members of the Hijra community planted two flowering plants and three fruit plants amid chants of 'Vande Mataram' and 'Jai Hind'.

Then we gathered for a fascinating discussion. Questions of what freedom means to us, the division between us and them, and what steps could be taken to overcome those very boundaries were brought forward.

Spriha Society distributed a packet of biryani, a small bottle of coke, a mineral water bottle, sanitary kits containing sanitizer, four surgical masks, a handwash, and an umbrella to each of our guests. It was a day of sensitization, awareness, pondering the meaning of freedom, and self-introspection. Our guests spoke about their experiences, struggles, and concepts of freedom. We hope that one day we can go beyond the differences that exist in our society and we can be truly inclusive.

Shakti Rupena Samsthita- Exhibition by Spriha Society (2022)

Welcome to Shakti Rupena Samsthita, a remarkable event that showcased the talent and resilience of cis-gender women, non-binary, and transgender entrepreneurs. We take pride in having organized a memorable exhibition cum sale, providing a platform for small businesses to shine, connect with customers, and build their networks. India is in a group of countries where women and members of LGBTQ+-led businesses struggle with less favorable conditions, pronounced cultural biases, and a lack of business resources such as finances, capital, training, and development.

Let's celebrate the accomplishments of the remarkable entrepreneurs who participated in last year's exhibition. With over 45 business owners joining us, we witnessed a diverse range of exquisite clothing and accessories, beautiful arts and crafts, mouth-watering food, and much more. Their passion and creativity made the event a resounding success.

While Shakti Rupena Samsthita has concluded, our commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs continues. Stay connected and be the first to know about upcoming events, workshops, and initiatives to empower small businesses.
